Delegation Challenge – Haiti

Haiti has been suffering for years from deep social inequalities, chronic poverty reinforced by a fragile political infrastructure and weak or even non-existent social safety nets, placing the country among the poorest nations on the planet.

In a country where almost 60% of the population is illiterate, socio-political instability and rising inflation are factors that further increase the chronic poverty experienced by the Haitian population on a daily basis. The loss of control of the situation by the State has deeply aggravated the already existing problem of armed criminal “gangs” controlling large parts of the country, especially in the capital, Port-au-Prince.

In this context, the Ministry of Education delayed the start of classes for the 22-23 school year until October, but at the end of October it has not yet been possible to start classes and there is no forecast as to when this can be done.

From Entreculturas, together with Fe y Alegría Haiti, works to guarantee the right to education. in this country through a project where education is a key element in the integral development of people and their communities, demonstrating the direct relationship between education, life expectancy and income of the population.

The project will support quality education for 4,427 students in kindergarten, primary and secondary education, in an attempt to support the Fe y Alegría schools, which are experiencing serious difficulties due to the country’s insecurity and are expected to face difficulties during the 22-23 school year.

It also seeks to support the security of existing educational centers so that they can remain operational, although with reduced activity, waiting for an improvement in the situation of violence to allow a certain degree of normality to be restored.

With your support we transform their lives.

At Entreculturas we want to continue promoting access to education and accompanying more people in vulnerable contexts.
