Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is our highest decision-making body. It is composed of 10 members, a secretary and a president. All the people who form part of this governing body are linked to our work by their beliefs and values, and have been chosen for their experience and knowledge in the educational field.

Presidente

Presidente Enric Puiggròs Llavinés

SJ, Provincial of Spain. He was born in Barcelona in 1974 and after attending EGB, BUP and COU at the Colegio Sant Ignasi de Sarrià, he entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus in Zaragoza in 1993. He later studied Contemporary History at the University of Barcelona and did his teaching at the Claver School in Raimat (Lleida). He studied theology at the Faculty of Theology of Catalonia and at the Institute of Fundamental Theology of Sant Cugat del Vallès, where he obtained a degree in Fundamental Theology on Ignatian Pedagogy, was ordained a priest in 2006 and, after completing his studies in 2007, joined the mission of the Society of Jesus. Between 2007 and 2011 he was assigned to the Professional Technical School of El Clot (Barcelona). His training was completed with the third probation, which he did in Cape Coast (Ghana) between January and June 2012. That same year he spent a few months collaborating with the Jesuit Refugee Service in Yei (South Sudan). Upon his return, he was appointed province consultant for the province of Tarragona, and began working as vocation promoter for the province of Spain, a position he held for eight years, combining it first with the pastoral direction of the Jesuit Education Foundation and then, stationed in Madrid since 2017, with the coordination of the pre-novitiate team of the province of Spain.

Since 2014, when the Jesuit provinces were united into one, he became consultant to the Province of Spain, a responsibility he has held until now. In 2020 the Provincial appointed him Delegate of the Apostolic Platform of the Society of Jesus in Catalonia, a task he has carried out in the last two years, and his artistic facet is well known, with special sensitivity to pastoral ministry through music, which has led him to participate in various Christian music groups and to initiate musical production projects. Perhaps the best known among them is currently the Jesuitas Acústico group.

At the Provincial Congregation in February 2022, Enric Puiggròs was elected Procurator, so he will participate in the next Congregation of Procurators of the Society of Jesus, which will take place in Loyola from May 15, 2022, and brings together representatives of all the provinces and regions of the Society of Jesus in the world. On Saturday, June 17, 2023, he was appointed the new Provincial of Spain of the Society of Jesus.

Luis Arancibia Tapia

With a degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Complutense University of Madrid, he is currently the Delegate of the Social Apostolate Sector of the Spanish Province of the Society of Jesus. He is a member of a dozen boards of trustees of social institutions and of the board of the Jesuit Refugee Service Europe. He has previously held responsibilities in international cooperation organizations and networks.

He has been Executive Director of the Entreculturas – Fe y Alegría Foundation (from 2000 to September 2016); Member of the coordinating team of the International Federation of Fe y Alegría and responsible for its sustainability and institutional development axis; Responsible for the area of education for development, awareness, communication and advocacy at Manos Unidas between 1995 and 2000. Previously, he was responsible for the co-financing department in the same organization from ’92 to ’95; Member of the Board of Directors of Fe y Alegría International in two terms (2004-08 and 2012-16) and coordinator of the international public action program from 2004 to 2016. In the Non-Governmental Organizations sector, he has held various positions of responsibility: President of the Coordinadora de ONGD de España (1995 to 98); Vocal of Institutional Relations of the Board of Directors of the same (1998-2000); President of the Federation of NGOs of the Community of Madrid (2001-2003); President of the Commission of follow-up of the Code of Conduct of the Coordinadora de ONGD España (2001-07). He has participated as a member of the Development Cooperation Council of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs representing NGOs in two stages (1995-2000 and 2004-2016).

He has been visiting professor at the Graduate School of Social Work and the Jesuit Institute of Boston College (2011-12) and Professor of various courses on development cooperation (Comillas Master, ETEA Master, Master of the University of Malaga, Postgraduate Training Program of the UNED) and author of various articles and materials on faith and justice and development cooperation.

José Miguel Colina SJ

Education Delegate of the Province of Aragon from 2005 to 2011. From 2011 to 2020 he has been the Coordinator of the EDUCSI Schools of the Eastern Zone of the Province of Spain. He is currently Delegate for Youth and School Pastoral Care.

José Ignacio García Jiménez SJ

Social Delegate of the Conference of European Provincials. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1983 and participated in 2008 in the 35th General Congregation, which elected Father General Adolfo Nicolás. He studied Economics and Business Administration (ICADE) in Madrid, from where he was assigned to Malawi to work as a teacher with refugees from Mozambique. He has been closely linked to Valladolid, where he has taught for 9 years at INEA (School of Agricultural Engineering) and has resided at the Colegio Mayor Menéndez Pelayo. He is currently Director of the Jesuit European Office (Ocipe) in Brussels.

José Ignacio Eguizábal Escribano

General Manager of EGIBIDE. He was Director of the Alboan Foundation from 2005 to 2015. He holds a degree in industrial engineering from the University of Navarra and an MBA from the School of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Deusto. He has worked for ten years in various technical and management positions in private enterprise, with special dedication to the areas of quality. He is also currently a member of the Basque Council for Development Cooperation.

Eva Castillo Sanz

Member of the Board of Directors of Telefónica, S.A. Graduated in Law and Business Administration from Universidad Pontificia de Comillas, Madrid. In 1997 she joined Merrill Lynch as Head of Equity Markets for Spain and Portugal. In 1999 she was promoted to Country Manager for Spain and Portugal, and in 2000 she was appointed Managing Director of Merrill Lynch Capital Markets Spain. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, she worked for five years in the International Equities Department of Goldman Sachs in London and, before that, another five years in the Equities Sales and Research Department of the Spanish broker Beta Capital. She is currently Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Telefónica Deutschland Holding, AG; Director of Bankia (since 2012) and member of the Board of Trustees of Fundación Telefónica and Fundación Comillas-ICAI. From September 2012 to February 2014, she was President and CEO of Telefónica Europe. Also, from February 2011 to February 2013, she was a Director of Old Mutual, Plc; and from May 2010 to January 2014, Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of Telefónica Czech Republic, A.S.

Marta Riopérez Orta

Journalist with a degree in Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid. She is currently the director of the magazines Nuevo Estilo, ELLE Decor, MiCasa, Casa Diez and Cocina Diez, published by Hearst Magazines España, and is the promoter and director of the Interior Design event DecorAcción, held annually in Madrid. His professional career began at the launch of the Spanish edition of ELLE magazine in 1986 and in the last twenty years his career has been focused on the communication of Interior Design and Architecture, being jury of prestigious competitions and participating in numerous seminars, lectures and meetings in this regard. From September 2000 to January 2002 she was director of Casa Diez, Cocina Diez and ELLE Decoration. Previously, she participated in the launching of Casa y Campo and Propiedades de Globus Comunicación, and was their director since 1994.

Julia Navarro

A writer and journalist, she has worked in the main media in the written press, radio and television and currently writes an opinion column that is distributed throughout Spain through the Europa Press Agency. She is the author of books on current political affairs: “Nosotros la Transición”; “Entre Felipe y Aznar”; “Señora Presidenta”. Her first novel “La Hermandad de la Sabana Santa” published in 2004, has been followed by other titles: “La Biblia de Barro”, “La Sangre de los Inocentes”, “Dime Quién Soy”, “Dispara yo ya estoy muerto”, “Historia de un Canalla”, “Tú no matarás” published so far in more than thirty countries. “Dime Quién Soy” has been brought to the screen by Movistar + and broadcasted in several European countries as well as in the United States.

Jenny Cafiso

It is the Executive Director of Canadian Jesuits International, based in Toronto, Canada, and assistant to the Provincial for international apostolates. From 1995 to 2003, she served as Program Coordinator at the International Office of the Jesuit Refugee Service in Rome. She has also worked for 10 years as Education Coordinator at the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace in Toronto. He worked for two years in Peru with the leadership training team of TAREA, a popular education center working in Lima’s slums. His education has been developed at York University, Master in Political Science, Master in Humanitarian Aid by the Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs (IIHA) and Bachelor in Sociology by the University of Toronto (Ontario-Canada). His professional performance has led him to travel to different parts of the world.

María del Carmen de la Fuente

Director of the Migra Studium Foundation (Barcelona) and Coordinator of the Jesuit Migrant Service in Spain. Sociologist, from the University of Barcelona, and Master in International Migration by IUEM – Universidad Pontificia Comillas, she has also directed her training in NGO Direction and Management and in Leadership and Social Innovation at ESADE. His professional career, within the Social Sector of the Society of Jesus, has passed through the Fundació Privada La Vinya (L’Hospitalet de Llobregat) until 2015 when he assumed the direction of the Migra Studium Foundation (Barcelona), also carrying out different Coordinations: Jesuit Migrant Service in Spain, of the Social Works of the Society of Jesus.

Enrique Sanz Giménez-Rico, SJ

Rector of Comillas Pontifical University. Born in Valladolid in 1965, Enrique Sanz holds a degree in Trilingual Biblical Philology from the Pontifical University of Salamanca (1990); a degree in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute of Rome (1997); and a doctorate in Theology from Comillas (2000). A specialist in the theology of the Pentateuch and the theology of the Psalter, as well as in Old Testament spirituality, he has been a professor at the Faculty of Theology at Comillas since 2001. He has also been director of the Department of Sacred Scripture and Church History, vice-dean of the Faculty of Theology (2009-2012), and director of the journal of pastoral theology Sal Terrae (2001-2012). In his teaching work he has taught Sapiential and Apocalyptic Literature (undergraduate), as well as Old Testament Theology and Spirituality in graduate courses. Among his publications are Cercanía del Dios distante (Madrid, 2002), Un recuerdo que conduce al don (Bilbao, 2004), Profetas de misericordia (Madrid, 2007), Ya en el principio (Madrid, 2008) and Señor, roca mía, escucha mi voz (Estella, 2014), in addition to numerous book chapters and research and popularization articles. Since 2015, he was dean of the Faculties of Theology and Canon Law. He has also been a member of the board of UNIJES (Jesuit Universities of Spain).

María Luisa Berzosa González, FI

Religious of the Congregation of the Daughters of Jesus (Jesuitinas), of Ignatian spirituality, dedicated to education. She worked as an administrative officer in the Ministry of Information and Tourism, specifically in the General Directorate of Cinema and Theater, until she joined the Congregation. He studied theology at the Pontifical University of Salamanca and later studied philosophy and literature in Valladolid. At the Salesian University of Rome, he obtained a degree in Educational Sciences with a specialization in youth ministry and catechetics. He lived for 14 years in Buenos Aires, where he was part of the founding team of Fe y Alegría Argentina. For 11 years, he coordinated a school at Fe y Alegría Rome that served migrants from Latin America, allowing them to study while working. For a period of 6 years, from 2014 to 2020, she collaborated as a volunteer at Entreculturas in Madrid. There, he coordinated the Spirituality Commission and led the annual Spiritual Exercises. He currently resides in Rome at the General Curia of his congregation. He participated in the Synod on “Faith, Youth and Vocational Discernment” in 2018 and in the “Special Synod of the Amazon” in 2019. In 2019, Pope Francis appointed her as a consultant to the General Secretariat of the Synod. He is an active member of two of the four commissions that contribute to this process: Spirituality and Communication, and in April 2022, he received the appointment as a member of the Vatican Dicastery for Education and Culture.
