Fe y Alegría Uruguay presents its education strategy at the Education Ministry

Under the title "The challenge to integrate quality and equity in education: the work of Fe y Alegría", Suñol presented at the Catholic University of Uruguay the successful experiences that are being carried out in Latin America education Centres, that show that is possible to implement significant improvements in quality education of the less favoured sectors.

Fe y Alegría started in Uruguay in 2009, and since then much progress has been made. Today it works in three schools and fifteen non formal education centres in the areas of Montevideo, Canelones, Cerro Largo and Maldonado. With the conference held this month, the organization has received the recognition of the Ministry of Education. This step has proved to be most effective in other countries such as Ecuador in order to improve quality education.

Attending the conference were Education Secretary Ricardo Ehrlich, Tourism and Sports Secreatary, Héctor Lescano, ex president Luis Alberto Lacalle; the leader of the Independent Party, Pablo Mieres and Senators Sergio Abreu and Eber Da Rosa.

Among the more than 300 attendants in the Catholic University of Paraguay, run by the Jesuits, were also its Rector, Father Eduardo Casarotti, who presented the conference, the Provincial for Argentina and Uruguay Father Alfonso Gómez, and the Auxiliary Bishop of Montevideo, Milton Luis Tróccoli Cebedio. Also attending were the 19 national directors of the 19 countries where Fe y Alegría is present, among which was Agustín Alonso, Entreculturas director.

"The idea of inviting public education authorities, business men and women and congress members is to contribute to the debate that is being generated on education" explained Urugay Fe y Alegría Director, Martín Haretche, to the local media.
