After a great conference with a massive attendance of people, Entrecultura's delegation in Burgos had the privilege together with a reduced number of NGOD, of sharing a light dinner and an exceptional talk with Rigoberta Menchú.
She mentioned the importance of going on with the values education for our children and young people, as she stated that nowadays young people lack of references and goals that inspire them to fight for a change in the world structures.
She also mentioned the great importance of protecting our "Mother Nature", stating like is the man the most predator animal on the face of the Earth, encouraged by the irrational consumption he is exposed to. She also share with us an advice of her mother that she never forgets "You may keep what you can hold in your hands, what you cannot, leave for others to take".
Regarding development aids from rich countries and the job of the NGOD, Rigorberta Menchú doesn't consider they are incompatible in order to change the structures that make injustices remain. In this sense she invited the NGOD to play an important role of political denounce in favour of disadvantaged people.
She also reminds us that there is still a lot to do, mainly in the educational field, children health, women emancipation or impunity of crimes against indigenous population.
These were the topics she faced. Always in a easy language and absolutely credible that touched all of us. It was such a real luxury to have the chance of sharing a time with an exceptional woman who experienced in herself the extreme poverty and had the courage and bravery to fight against it. A remarkable woman. A great role model.
