Social Commotion in Haiti faced with economic crisis

Civil society is beginning to be desperate. Staple goods prices keep on increasing and more and more the number of people who has almost nothing to eat is becoming larger. Haiti plunged into a wave of violence and plundering. Petionville market's closed down in the beginning of April was no more than a sign of the desperate measures of Government to put order. Olga Regueira, our volunteer in Haiti, describes what she lived in this market that she frequently visits, a colourful place full of smiles, people shouting and greeting each other... and haggling. New VOLPAs in Honduras, Perú and Venezuela

All April long, Aurora, Jose Luis and Mariana have shared with us their impressions before travelling to Honduras, Peru and Venezuela, respectively. They are participant of our International Volunteer Programme, and they will live in Latin America one or two years in projects supported by Entreculturas. The Way Forward for Radio Kwizera

Radio Kwizera (RK) was established in 1995 following a large influx of refugees in West Tanzania and was the first radio station ever to be operated by JRS. Over the years it has established an unrivalled reputation in Eastern Africa and is listened to by many people. Radio Kwizera literally stands for the Radio of Hope and has been serving millions of people who are on the margins of society. It broadcasts in English, French, Kiswahili and Kurindi to reach the largest number of people in Ngara, Kibondo, Kasulu, Kigoma, Biharamulo and parts of Burundi and Congo. Leer+

Zimbabwe, a tough reality after the elections

The elections held in Zimbabwe have shown the world the reality of a country scarred by 28 years of dictatorship and a corrupt and disorganized political system. Michael Gallagher, a member of the Jesuit Refugee Service for Southern Africa reports on this reality and alerts on the ordeal of tens of thousands of displaced persons who seek refuge in neighbouring countries where they are not welcome. “Enough, we're hungry” Haiti goes through desperate situation

Jesuits in this region criticize the International Community's passive attitude towards this country, the poorest in Latin America, and add: "they pretend everything is fine while the Haitian society falls into an abyss". March 21th Intercultural Education to fight racism.

In Entreculturas we are convinced that education is an essential tool to bring the many different realities and cultural manifestations closer to the society, meaning that it is possible to connect cultures through Education in order to get to know and respect each other instead of rejecting them. Bringing education to the Guatemala rural areas

Entreculturas try to faith against education exclusion. This is the case of the work we carry out in Guatemala to avoid that indigenous population don't attend to school. To achieve it, we promote the access and stay of boys and girls under school age in the education centres by supporting the infrastructure improvement, nourishment assistance at school and quality teachers. Quality education that doesn't leave anyone out

The fact of belonging to a certain social class, lacking resources, being handicapped, skin colour, gender or the hardships a country may be going through sometimes drive children out of the school system, denying them the fundamental right of access to education. Global Action week 2008 is here

This year, the Global Action Week has taken place from 21-27 of April on the theme of "Quality Education to End Exclusion". Millions of people all over the world have mobilized to get that Education for All (EFA) became a reality, but a "quality" education. This is the demand we have done to the politicians during this week organized since 2001 by the Global Campaign for Education (GCE). Entreculturas is GCE's coordinator in Spain. Leer+
